Microsoft has submitted a pending patent for a technique supporting context-aware adaptation of user interfaces: http://www.faqs.org/patents/app/20090055739. Although this patent does not concern front-ends of web services, it is interesting to note how Microsoft is trying to cover this question. It is also mainly based on sensors for ambient intelligence.
